Question:Any advice or tips on how you can turn your garage into a living space? Not too expensive though ...

put a nice throw rug int he middle, put a couch and a tv on a wood crate. setup a table and a couple chairs off to one side
I turned mine into a small recording studio.
If not already done - sheetrock the walls & if it gets real cold/hot insulate also. Then paint & you're good to go.

You may want to check with your insurance company first about redesignating it as a living space. Garages - if the thing burns down, contents are typically not covered. Shocker, Look into it.
Look at garage sales if you don't want to go to high .Also you can make a lot of things yourself curtains, bookshelves,bed,and pictures..
cover the big door with some drywall, make sure to insulate for winter time. get some cheap carpet and you are good to go.
First paint the walls a homish color. Maybe put some carpet in and some nice lamps and picture frames on the wall.
most garages are set for living (electricy and four walls) just need the time to put it all together
large garage door convert to french doors or lage window.

see if your able to provide plumbing to the garage.
water,gas and drain (if distance from garage to house is far)
hardwood floors or tile floor be easy to install since most garage floors are level already.
carpet be a good choice also for a cheap budget (makesure its padded)
