What is the best material to go for when buying a carpet -especially for easy-care and lack of static?

Question:I'm looking to buy carpet for the spare bedroom and hall stairs - which is the best to go for...is polypropylene a bad choice for cleaning/hoovering/static or is it as good as wool? Also - are the mixed wool/man-made carpets just as good as 100%wool?

Answers:
80/20% wool mixture is the best! I've been a carpet fitter for 20 years.
A woven carpet such as axminster is also your best bet.

Wool is miles better, specially on busy areas like stairs. If not 100% wool then at least 80%.
Dont't have synthetic. Go for mostly wool from a good manufacturer. There are Scotchguard finishes available too. Stairs need heavy duty carpet but bedrooms can be of lesser domestic quality. I think it is well worth having a good underlay for all carpet too.
75/25 wool mix is best if you can afford it - Avoid Nylon and polypropylene.
80/20 is ok. I had them before my laminate flooring and they never wore out and spills were easy to clean without staining.
go for wool more expensive but you only get what you pay for Wilton or axminster, but you may get a deal never thought of laminate for bedroom cheaper and fresher?good luck
