INTERIOR DESIGNERS: I want to suprise my 10 yr old daughter with an awesome room...?

Question:Finally got a good job and she will have her own room for the very first time. She thinks she is just getting my old bed and a dresser but i am working 40 hrs of overtime to HOOK HER UP. what is popular for her age and what are some great ideas?

Answers:
I love kids rooms, because of all of the rooms in a home, I think designing a room for a child and a parents is the most challenging. Plus, I just love kids.

Because she's 10 years old, I would design the room with her teenage years in mind. So, I would defintely buy furniture that would allow her to have friends over and be comfortable.

I think the Elation Collection, by Lea, would be a great choice. Lea is actually a company owned by La-Z-Boy, so you know you're getting quality furniture. And the Elation line was designed with the "tweener" in mind, so I think it would be perfect for your daughter. I found a place online that sells it so you can get a look at it. My first suggestion would be the 3/3 Tester Bed and they are selling it for $357.00 (twin size, also offered in full for a little more). If you add on the trundle, which I recommend, it adds an additional $195.50. Here is a link where you can view the entire collection:

The great thing about white furniture is that you can paint her room any color. You could always go for the stereotypical pink, however, talk to her over the next few days and ask her what some of her favorite colors are. That way you can select your paint color and bedding accordingly.

im glad u got a goodd job. what a lucky girl to have a mom like u. well she probally likes disney channel and nickelodean.bright vibrant colors. like green and purple and blues
try and go with a turqouise because in a few years shell still like that. go with a color that shell like for more than a year(probally not pink) decorations...wal mart has nice bedding. target has lamps and rugs. pier one imports is probally too "older style" for her. jcpenny is my personal favorite.
they have little rooms in the store and have everything to match. www.jcpenny.com they have a little missmatched which is very cute and probally more to a 10 year olds liking try the teen bedding because they have nicer bedding than in the kids section.
I have noticed that the lime green, pinks and purples are big right now. Especially in the old style "flower power" pattern. Mary Kate and Ashley have a nice bedding line out or she might enjoy the new Bratz line of bedding. Take your color scheme and decorating ideas from the colors in the bedding you choose. Usually you can coordinate curtains, rugs and accessories to match. Your wall colors can be pulled out of the bedding color too. For a girl I would also consider going with white furniture, if you were thinking of changing her bed and dresser too.
Congratulations!

At 10 she is a little lady but is still growing. Keep this in mind as you redecorate her bedroom. She is growing up fast and you don't want to buy her all new furniture and have to repaint too much as she grows into a teenager. Themes like cartoons she likes or music she is into are things she will get tired of fast, so stick to color themes or a more generic theme like flowers, etc.

Girls of all ages want to feel like royalty, so how about something elegant and girl? White french looking furniture and beautiful vintage florals are beautiful for girls. Get a mini-chandelier to install above her bed (you can find these relatively cheap nowadays). A lovely soft purple or peach on the walls or even broad stripes (one and a half foot stripes) of two shades of purple or peach (one lighter shade and one darker) could be a bit more exciting. Cover the bed in plush pillows and get some throw pillows so her and her girlfriends can lounge on the floor.

Patterns that are very in right now are damasks, vintage florals (like old botanicle prints) and anything french!

Good luck and best wishes!
