Forget the things you can't change and focus on the things you can - bath mat, towels, shower curtain, window blind etc.
It really depends on your own taste but with blue fixtures, a darker blue might be nice if you want to tone it down a bit or shocking pink if you want to add a bit of 'wow'.
With yellow fittings, you can tone it down - again dark blue would be nice - or really go for it with a yellow and orange combination (see the shower curtain in the link below).
If you want something a bit classy, don't forget that silver/grey can look really good especially with a silver venetian blind.
depending on the type of style you are going for you have a number of options for this room.
if your choice is a relaxed feeling then I would pull in your accessories, such as what type of fixtures do you have, are your faucets silver or gold. You can have your g-can, t-brush holder, kleenix box, soap dispenser all the same color as the fixtures. Then a nice fluffly dark blue rug and shower curtain to tie it all in. along with light and dark blue towels.
Or for a more energetic room
you can do the opposite of the color pallet and go for a domineering Yellow if the sink is blue or visa versa and follow thru with the towels rugs and shower curtain
some nice wall are in all one color or with many vibrant colors can help in either room as well.
Decorating can be a pain in a rental. I rented a house for four years that had baby blue, mustard yellow and red in the bathroom. I could not paint, and of course couldn't replace the flooring, tub and sink...so I got creative. One thing you can do is hit Wal Mart or Target or Kmart.pick up a cheap but multicolored bathroon set. The base color can be anything just as long as one of the accent colors matches your fixtures. Then to add to it, but a hand towel in the accent color. Another thing to bring it all together would be to go to the craft store...pick up a few fake flowers in a variety of colors and glue them to a cheap wall plaque.hang it up. It really works and it gives you a very unique and creative bathroom.
Don't fight it.just use white as the other color for towels, rug, etc.
yellow and blue when done right looks good together. get your towels and etc in one color and use decor and candles in other color. handtowels for decor tied them off with a satin ribbon bow in the other color.
