My mom hired a company to put in her kitchen counter, and they keep moving the install date.?
Question:Now I find out they let their contractors license expire in March!
My Mom has already paid the first 2 installments!
The first date was the 16th. Then they said the 25th. Now they say the 30th! They say it is a scheduling problem!
Should I call the owner, and tell him what's going on! And ask why he isn't licensed? And should she still have them do the work?
Answers:
Make two complaints. One to the Better Business Bureau and the other to the state contractor's licensing board. If their license, bond and insurance number is listed on the contract, you can also make a claim against their insurance for what you have already paid. (If you call the owner and tell him what you plan to do, you probably will get some action a lot quicker.)
telll mom to put her foot down and tell that company to step up or she will hire a different company
CALL THE OWNER FOR SURE AND ASK WHAT IS GOING ON.
I'd call and give them one chance to explain & then demand my money back. I'd also report them to the Better Business Bureau.
Have your Mom call the owner and tell him whats going on and let them know that you are wanting your money back...NOW. I would find a new company for the work. If necessary, I would let them know that you are going to contact the Better Business Bureau.
Ahhhh, the wonderful world of contract labor. If there is a signed contract WITH A START AND FINISH DATE or just a finish date, they are legally bound to stick to the dates. If your mom signed anything relieving them of this obligation there should be a new date.Tell her not to sign anything with a different date. The first time they break that agreement they are held at fault. It is called breach of contract.Your mokm is due any money she has paid and possibly any money in excess of the contract that she has to pay another contractor.ie.if contract was 100 and new contract with new contractor is 300, your mom is due 200.
Do you know for sure that his license is already expired? How did you find out this info? Im thinking maybe it hasnt been updated in the systems.
I would def call the owner or whoever is over him...a supervisor or someone like that. Dont let them push you around be stern yet polite and tell them they better be there on the 30th no exceptions or you will be down to collect the money or checks your mother has paid them. If they have already cashed the checks make sure to take a copy of the cashed check for proof so they dont give you the runaround!
Good Luck!
