How do you remove adhesive from wall after removing a border without damaging surface?

Question:After removing border from painted wall I have adhesive residues left. Tried heating surface to remove with no effect. Do not want to damage paintwork

Answers:
goo gone should work.

There are 2 products you can use to remove the glue:

1. Use plain old blue car windshield washer in a spray bottle. This is my preference.

2. Get some Goof off. The product can be found at any home hardware store.
warm soapy water will remove most brands.
It depends on what the adhesive is made of. Most borders adhesive is water based and so only needs to be saturated with water to the point that it is fluid again, and then it can be wiped up. Steam helps speed this process up.

If it is a chemical based adhesive 3M makes some good cleaners that should remove it. Another cleaner that might work is called Goof Off. It works great for most things and if the paintwork is fully cured it should not harm it, assuming you do not apply too much pressure or use something that is too abrasive when rubbing the adhesive off. Check at your local hardware store to find what you need.
One thing you need to know about Goof Off is that it will more than likely take the paint off too. I wouldn't recommend it for your situation.
If the adhesive is from a wallpaper border, either wallpaper paste, or the glue used in prepasted wallpaper, use TSP (Trisodium phosphate) to remove it. You can get that at any hardware/home improvement store.

That's what my helpful hardware person at Ace recommended to me when I had to remove the glue residue on my bathroom walls after stripping off the wallpaper. It worked great and doesn't damage paint.
DO NOT USE Goof Off. It will remove paint/damage the walls. It says right on the bottle "remove dried latex paint"
your walls are painted with latex paint. the bonehead that suggested goof off would have a huge mess that would be impossible to fix...

I would suggest a product called DIF. It is a wallpaper remover that is safe on walls, very mild/gentle to use, but does an excellent job of removing wallpaper adhesive. you may have to give it several applications/wipe downs to get it all, but it will be the safest thing to use. I have used it myself, and it did not damage walls/floors/clothing, etc.
It should be available at any paint store, home center, etc.
