Italy has been a leader in leather. You can buy top grain leather from China at very low prices. In both cases ask if the sofa is constructed with leather on sides, backs. Some mfg. use matching vinyl to cut costs. Also ask about internal construction, ie: padding on arms, sides. Ask about pillows: are the seat cushions and back cushions attached or loose. (it's good to have loose cushions so you can reverse them and also turn them over thereby equalizing wear.)
I have had mine for approximately five years. It looks and feels good.
Good Experience: it make my living room rich and it is easy to maintain.
Bad Experience: the sofa gets real cold in the winter time and it was kind of expensive.
It is worth the money.
