Anyone painted their bedroom deep red? What color trim do you have?

Question:My husband and I are thinking about painting our bedroom a deep red color and furnishing the room with black furniture. (We know it's going to be dark... since he sleeps during the day that's kinda what we're going for. However, we can't agree on a trim color. I think we should paint the trim and backs of the doors SOMETHING (gray, maybe?); he says leave them white. I think white will look goofy with all of the dark colors we'll have. What do you all think?

Answers:
I personally think a deep red in a bedroom is luxurious, comforting and warm. I have longed to paint my bedroom a red colour but I haven't quite found the right one yet.
There are a number of options you have.
1. Trims, doors, windows - white (considering, black, red and white make a good colour scheme in itself)
2. Trims the same colour as the walls - which I have done many times.
3. Trims, window frames - tint, tones or shades of the primary colour.
4. Grey would work if your red is a very deep red. I personally like the Dulux range of colours and as a suggestion have selected Dulux 'Musk Memory' (deep red); Marais (very dark blue/black) and Partita (grey). These three would work.
5. Select test pots and splash the paint around in your room and see how it all works together with the light and furniture selection.
6. If you select a colour and paint your room and then really dislike it remember 'its only paint' - and can be painted again (I changed my bedroom colour 4 times!!)

yes and I painted the trim a creamy color. it looked beautiful but after a while the red drove me crazy and painted with a lighter color, it feels like the room is 10 feet larger.
I've never done that, but I've decorated on The Sims, am decent with paint, and have a reasonably good idea how it will look. You should use thin threads of gold or silver and blacks and some white, but not a lot. I'd probably paint the trim black with a thin line of white, and the door could be a dark smoky grey or white would be okay, if you painted some lines of black around the rectangle insets (if there are any.) Good luck!
Use a slightly lighter shade of your wall color might be good.
Forget gray.
White can also be used, especially if you have a nice 6" base and case to match. The contrast to the deep color, ( and you may have to use up to 4 coats!) will be nice. If you have to prime the wall, have them tint the primer to help you along.
There.
maybe do the walls in a deep red speckled faux finish and a really dark blue trim - wood furniture still looks classy

just a thought
I painted my master bedroom deep red (actually Rave Red from Shewin Williams) and used white trim and crownmolding, have a white bed spread and drapes and natural wood for furniture. If you do gray for trim it will be TOO dark. Trust me! I LOVE my red room!
Red does close in the room, and i know that from experience! If the room is large enough it will be fine. I think that either a cream or white will be nice. NOT gray or black!
Painting a room red is something that has to be done very carefully. Red is my favorite color and I am a total advocate for painting some living areas red, however, I don't think I would paint a bedroom red. Not 100% red anyway. However, if you painted the walls in red and grey stripes, I think that would look very bold and elegant. And I think it would have the same look you're going for, but it would be more liveable. There is no way that you could live in a red bedroom. The psychological effects of red are too intense. Also, painting walls in red and be very time consuming and expensive. Deep reds require tinted primer and even then, multiple coats of red are required.

I have to agree with your husband and say keep the trim white. If you have a crimson red, grey, and a nice crisp white crown molding the room would pop. Then bring in your red window treatments and your black furniture and it would all gel very well.
I like a creamy color like ivory. What color are the bedding/drapes? We had red walls with a spread of pink to deep red roses, iron headboard, and it looked great.
