How to paint Popcorn Celings?
Question:Include instructions and materials, and maybe pics if possible.
Answers:
remove it first! Popcorn celings are a thing of the past. Lay down a bunch of cloths on the floors and make sure your in clothes you dont mind getting nasty. Spray your ceilings with water and take a paint scraper and get rid of the stuff. It doesnt take that long to get rid of it, it will increase the value and appearance of your home, its just a bit messy.
If you go to your local hardware store, they have special paint rollers for doing this.
Cut in the edges with a brush and then roll the rest.
Sorry no picture . The only way to really paint a popcorn ceiling is by renting a sprayer. If you brush or roll the stuff on the ceiling comes off. My Hubbies a painter and that's what he does.
Very very carefully! Sometimes they disintegrate or fall off while you try to paint them.
When we buy a house with popcorn ceilings, we try to hire cheap labor to remove the popcorn, or do it ourselves with a scraper and a garden sprayer. If the ceiling is not smooth, we repaint using a sand in paint method which is easily repainted.
In my opinion, all popcorn should be eradicated and not be allowed to be put on anything.
purdy makes a special roller cover just for that. you can get it at sherwin williams or home depot.
Popcorn ceilings are put on with a water base slurry type material. Unfortunately to much moisture can loosen this material and it will come down. Spots that have been wet through leaks will come down. I have painted several ceilings of this type my best advise do not saturate the roller with to much paint, use ceiling paint. Try to roll one way ,no back and forth jerky movements. If it wont cover in one spot come back after it drys.Just work carefully and patiently don't linger in one spot. I forgot some paint stores have special rollers for this purpose they may have further advise.
