I'm buying a new oven.?
Question:What kind of problems does an oven with a flat, ceramic glass cook top have if any? Does the paint melt off? Does the color fade? Do ovens with coil tops cook better? I'd like to know.
Answers:
Go with the GE Spectra Series. I have that ceramic glass cook top stove and it is fabulous. I have it three years already and it looks like new. The color does not fade, the paint does not melt off. You need Soft Scrub for ceramic glass stove tops to clean it, but it stays beautiful. Clean every time you cook, wash with clean water, then spray with Windex and your stove will look as good as when you first bought it.
I've had a ceran top w/oven for the past 4 yrs...no problem. Just don't melt things to the top...it's a self clean (gets up to 500 for 3, 1/2 hrs...) if the ceran top wasn't made to take heat, then it wouldn't have been put on a stove top in the first place.
I think the flat tops look nicer, but from what i've heard they can be dangerous if you have kids, pets such as cats, or if your of a forgetful nature...lol...because you can't see that it's hot, and it takes a longer time to cool down then the coils do. I do not have personal experience with this, but this is what i've heard through others. Hope it was of help to ya...
I have a solid surface stove with a self-cleaning oven, it's my second and I LOVE IT.
I purchase a special cleaning paste and keep the cooktop clean -- I've found that cleaning the cooktop when it is still warm works best. I like that there are no burner pans to have to clean and anything that boils over is easy to cleanup because you didn't have to take the top of the stove apart to get to the spills.
I have had children and pets in my home and there have never been any problems for either.

I have a glass top range and love it! No the color doesn't fade or the paint doesn't melt. They are safe! It is so nice when something spells over that after the stove cools you just take a rag and clean it up. Unlike the coil ones that are hard to clean and you usually have to take apart to get underneath. I really think you will like it. My oven broke on my stove and I plan on buying another glass top. Hope this helps you decided.
