How to paint my walls ?
Question:I want to paint my walls to make the house look better but I have vaulted ceilings and they are all loft style starting from 8 foot and going to 14 foot . I feel the only color that will look good is a cream or white and I am soooo sick of these colors ! How do I add color without it looking retarded ?
Answers:
You can do an accent wall to break up the cream, but add some drama. By only painting one wall, you give the illusion of color without overwhelming the eye!

for vaulted ceilings... I would paint the wall with the apex on it... it really showcases the high ceilings (which is a huge selling point and an architectural feature, so show it off!)
The paint store will have racks of sample strips of color, take the ones that are what you'd like to try and place them around.
You can do it.
Go to the Glidden color charts and look for,"A Touch of Color' These only have a slight hint of color to them. Or ask your paint-salesperson to show you color with only a hint of color to them. They are very light, but you can see the color reallly well when you add accent colors. Looks Good. Also remenber paint appears darker on the wall once dried.

You could do one of those chair-rail or picture rails that sections off part of the wall and paint only under that point, leaving the remainder of the wall and the vaulted ceiling white (or whatever it is now). Or you could just add beadboard or wallpaper or something fun or interesting under your chair rail / picture rail to give visual interest. If you don't know, a chair rail is a piece of trim (as plain or fancy as you like) at avg chair height (3 to 3.5 feet from ground) and a picture rail is higher, about 5 to 5.5 feet from ground. If your ceilings are very high, you could do the picture rail higher. Hope that helps.
