I'm planning on building my own queen size headboard. Any ORIGINAL ideas out there?

Question:I don't want the usual plywood, batting, fabric stapled over it all type of thing. Let me see some creative ideas!

Answers:
Get some nice pillow shams and cover a couple of pillows and staple them to the wall as a headboard, this will prevent any accidents should you bump your head in the middle of the night, you did say 40 right? LOL

Get some styrofoam blocks and shape them as a headboard, then insert artificial flowers in it or around it.

Install a curtain rod where the headboard goes, then buy or make some cool drapes, that way you can change it every season. Place a Vine around it.

build one , like a water bed headboard ,shelves, mirrors or even cabinets with doors, no more than 6'' deep. Maybe some crown molding . A little railing on top;.
At one time I thought about building my own headboard, but gave up on the idea after finding out that you can buy all kinds of nice ones out there and save a lot of work, carrying heavy wood to the car and strapping it on, having people cut the wood for you, dragging it into the house, etc.

If you go to places where there is inexpensive furniture you can get a nice plain or decorated (recessed marks in the wood) wood or cheap wood headboard. Or, you can buy one with a shelf where you can put books and a lamp and which would extend over two two-drawered what looks like file cabinets in a maple or dark wood. Really nice for storage.
You could use an old mantel, a door (turned on its side), artist's canvas and stretch fabric over it and then do like 6-9 panels of them, fencing, paint one on, pillows on a rod (loops go on the pillows, which go on the rod like a curtain).

Have fun!
1] cushion with batting, and cover with a weave of different color fabrics, ribbons, etc.
2] Make a headboard/bookcase with slanted supports/storage on either side - for sitting up to read. Cushion and cover them in one of the bedding materials.
3] decoupage a headboard in newspapers, greeting cards, wedding cards, flowered paper.
4] cover with tin ceiling panels
5] cover with a quilt
6] make one out of jail cell bars [ don't forget handcuffs ]
7] make one of doors - one each for foot and head
8] make one out of a mantle from an old house
take a piece of cork board cut it to shape you like take pictures of you and you friends or of things you like and paste it on be sure to cover the whole board, then put clear decoupage on it ..since these are thing you enjoy I'm sure it will turn out great. at the top and around the edges use a long strand of feather boa of a favorite color or accent color
Why don't you just paint one directly on the wall. Not quite as big a job to do this. You said you were in your 40's but I didn't get whether that meant that you wanted a mature theme for the headboard or that you couldn't do anything too major for the build.
Go to an antique shop or old restoration type place. Look for pieces of old metal fencing, makes cool headboard.
if ur gonna do it, make it creative. make sure u paint it. DO NOT SPRAY PAINT IT! i have had a bad expirience
