We have a Sealey mattress just over 1 yr old. It has two troughs with a moutain in the middle(it seems like)?
Question:from a years' usage. Sealy claims this is normal compression. This is the first latex foam that has ev er formed these depressions in them. Has anyone had this same experience and been successful with Sealy about it?

I'd like to preface this answer but giving you some background info about myself. I am a furniture repairman with 15 years experience, currently working for a small family owned furniture store that has manufactured its own mattress sets for almost 60 years in the Milwaukee, WI metro area. While I do not generally work in this area, I do go out on service calls to customer’s houses to assess problems (if any exist) and determine the best course of action to take. I wanted you to know this because I see to many answers regarding mattress questions answered by unqualified people.
Now to answer your question. Most likely there is nothing wrong with your mattress. While I don’t have the specifics of your configuration (type of mattress [standard, pillowtop, euro-pillowtop], (traditional bed, Hollywood frame or European platform bed), (support rail system or slats), etc…, these are “body impressions” that are normal for newer mattresses. This is generally due to the type and amount of foam pads used, and the coil system (if any) in the mattress. Most recent mattresses in the mid and upper price ranges use considerably more foam then mattresses made even just a few years ago. Foam reflexes only so much. The more foam (and generally the thicker the mattress) the more pronounced the body impressions will be. This is also the reason many manufacturers have gone to single sided “no flip” mattresses. Having so much foam on 2 sides just compounds the problem (the other problem being that most people don’t flip or rotate their mattress as often as they should, I’ll admit it, I’m lazy too).
The bottom line is if the mattress is not uncomfortable to sleep on then you should be alright, nothing is failing. Funny thing is, very few people complain about the cheaper mattress because they rarely “look bad”, but then again, their not as comfortable. For further piece of mind I refer you to this link http://www.bettersleep.org/onbettersleep...
at the Better Sleep Council (a consumer group of the International Sleep Products Association). Click on the “Body Impressions” link. While it does claim the impressions will smooth out and disappear, it doesn’t mention the fact that no one is sleeping in the middle or edges of your mattress where the peaks appear. Needless to say, if it doesn’t get used, it probably won’t disappear.
