We've just had our house redecorated and our decorator used Leyland Paint including Gloss paint. The finish is fantastic.

Get a good one, those cheap ones are rubbish and turn yellow very quickly. Dulux, MacPherson's, Leyland and Johnstons's are good. Put an undercoat on the wood first before applying the gloss, this will give the gloss a better `holding `surface.
Dulux or Layland
use crown, or dulux paint!
go into homebase or something!
but make sure you put an undercoat on, especially if your painting over a dark colour, then put a few coats on, just to cover it up.

Use a decent one- i.e dulux, crown or leyland
I am currently in the middle of decorating our flat and have been using crown. The finish is fantastic. Before this I bought the focus own brand and it is AWFUL. It is so thin I needed at least 3 coats on each door and even though it claimed to be non-drip and 'ran' everywhere. In the end I ended up sanding it down and re-doing the surfaces using the crown.
I've tried them all over many years. You can't beat Dulux.
But don't skimp on the preperation. If painting over previous paint, rub down well until the surface is really smooth. Then undercoat, rub down lightly again after 12hours or more, undercoat, then top coat.
If on new wood use a primer first then as above.
Tip: the more expensive abrasive papers last longer and clog less.
Use Dulux or Crown trade paints. On the face of it they're more expensive but are several times thicker than the equivalent domestic stuff bought over the counter at DIY shops and the coverage is fantastic. Go to Jewsons or other similar builders merchants (or if you're lucky your local hardware shop!) and get your colour mixed. You won't regret it.
you must be from ,or getting a lot of answers from the UK,as everyone reccomends Dulux.I am a contractor in america and I also have used dulux on many occasions ,and it is good , but there is much better, if you can get it I reccomend Benjamin Moore impervo...I usually use the satin, but you can choose a higher sheen if you wish.
Dulux UK every time, make sure you use a mini-roller designed for gloss paint, small brush for mouldings and corners only.
Ask at your local trade supplier for a commercial quality paint and go with there recommendation. The own named paints from DIY stores are formulated to be easier to use but do not give such lasting protection. Use a small gloss roller to apply the paint then finish with a brush. Much faster and a better finish.
the best white gloss by far is made by jotun paints and is called jotalak
it is a water based enamel which can be applied by brush,or roller dries in 15 minutes to a rock hard finish ,and because its water based will not go yellow on skirtings behind furniture or curtains.
its the usual go for the best it pays off in the long ,Dulux,Layland,it will last longer and look fab, have fun painting.
dulux
