Need ideas for basement ceiling with pipes, vents exposed. too low for suspended ceiling?
Question:This is for an antique store.
Answers:
How fun! My mother had an antique store and we painted the entire ceiling area a white with a tint of blue color, pipes, boards, ducts, everything. It actually looked really good to me anyway!
fabric to cover it. You can also paint it a bright color or black.
If the pipes are not too low you can build a drywall "soffit" around them to hide them and ad character to the room.
Since you cannot "hide" the piping, why not accent it? Use different colors for each type line with a light (or dark) color above them. Sounds like an older building so enclosing/covering them may not be a good idea anyways.
Spray the pipes and vents with a copper colored spray paint and then paint the wood behind it black. It will highlight the pipes and the copper color looks nice.
We converted our basement to a bedroom, but it is too low to cover the heating duct pipe. We just painted it white and put the ceiling drywall above it. It really isn't that noticeable, and when we do notice it (when my husband forgets to duck under it!), it's not too bad looking.
