Recently painted room in house used matt emulsion started to crack after it dried why?

Question:

Answers:
Did you apply a primer. Always make you prime before you paint. There are primers like Zinser 1-2-3 that protect surfaces from cracking, peeling, mold and mildew.

It was probably the prep work wasn't enough. If the surface was dirty or there were many layers of paint, especially oil based, that could lead to the paint not adhering properly and cracking as it dried.

Without details of the surface and prep work done it's hard to tell.

Before painting you should scrub the wall thoroughly, let it dry well, then start with a good primer/undercoat to assure good adhesion and coverage.

I've not used the modern emulsion paints so I'm not sure about issues with thinning it. Some paints require a thinned first coat for a proper base, some should never be thinned.

Hope that helps.

Contact the store you bought the paint from, they should be able to give you specifics if you can't find any fault with your application and preparations.
at a guess id say the room had been wallpapered beforehand and some of the residue paste had not been removed from the wall before painting, this would cause it to crack, ive been a proffesional decorator for 23 years and its just happened to me in my new house...you just cant always see it.
