Cheap decorating ideas?

Question:I'm getting an apartment next year with my boyfriend and we dont have much money. This apartment is very very tiny. We arent allowed to paint the walls or anything. I was wondering if anyof you had any cute CHEAP decorating ideas for small spaces.Where can I get cheap furniture? Do any of you know any DIY crafts? I think I have all the home essentials but I would like some outside opinions or tips. :) My budget is really really low, please keep this in mind. Anything helps though. Thanks.

Try to decorate in the Japanese style. Keep everything clean lines and simple. Bamboo window treatments, black painted furniture is ideal, look at tag sales and garage sales for necessary items. Don't use a lot of clutter, pictures, knick-knacks, etc. . .Japanese style is a symetrical to bring thought and meditation to items so there is no need to balance everything in the room. A bed, night stand and dresser, a simple couch and hopefully square coffee table, with square floor cushions or pillows for sitting. Simple yet elegant.

you can look on craigslist for cheap/free furniture
I am not sure about your couch, but I know that there are "Color-form" type decals for walls. They don't leave any residue so they are apartment friendly.
I found some at whatisblik.com
Also, you can find furniture at yardsales and repaint it or re-cover it.
Yard sales, second hand shops, etc.
You can slipcover or paint any furniture you find to make things coordinate better.
Unless you are an experienced seamstress making fitted slipcovers is difficult. Loose throws can be tucked and tied for an interesting cottagey effect, if you like that sort of thing.
Since the apartment is tiny, make sure any furniture you use is not too big and does double duty (example bench with storage, and such).
you want to keep it simple, the less you have the more room it will look like you have. you can go to www.homemadesimple.com they have plenty of good ideas for small spaces and plenty of storage ideas also.
Look for a local paper in the posh part of town. In the classifieds there is usually some good furniture that people who are moving want to be rid of. Sometimes the rich would rather give it away than move it!
