Make sure you make a nice wide open floor plan on the main floor that flows - or at least, that's what my mom always wishes she had. She also wants more closet space, whether it be the front closet or a bedroom closet - so give yourself plenty of it!

um. don't put things in the way my grandpa always curses bc they built something somewhere and just made it harder to get around ...and maybe try to make it that u can get to the kitchen from at least 2 ways .. good luck :)
Make sure you let your architect know exactly what it is YOU want or like. And if there's something you don't like, be sure your architect is well aware!
If you are having central air conditioning put in make sure that the architect hides the main vent that goes through the center of the house. Mine is in my living room and it bumps out about a foot. I am told that they could have put it somewhere more inconspicuous and it would not even show in the room. Also, ask for suggestions. I wish I had put in undercounter lighting. My builder and electrician never asked and I never thought of doing it. These may sound like simple things you expect, but if you don't ask they don't always tell or ask you. Also, have you considered putting in pocket doors. Nows the time to do it. They are nice because they do not swing out, but just slide into the wall and are very classy looking. Don't forget to put daylight windows in your basement if there is a chance that you will want to finish the basement off at a later date.
1.
