Answers:
Green is supposed to be the most restful colour for the eyes. Good for the theatre staff and good for the patient. I used to have my monitor at work in green until the IT dept told me off !

Apparently green is supposed to be a calming and relaxing colour therefore patients and surgeons benefit from it.
Surgical attire was initially white to emphasize on cleanliness but there were technical and psychological problems associated with this color. White color is known to reflect light rays and heat. This would make the operating room environment uncomfortable for operating surgeon and staff due to combination of bright operating lights and all-white environment, therepy adding to eye strain as well. Additionally sight of red stains of blood over white didn't go well with many and would rather perturb them psychologically.
The paint was cheap and it got written into the spec.
It is still under review for change as part of the NHS reform bill of 1967.
Most restful colour and isn't affected by reflections like many other colours.
its now just a tradition but the gowns and drapes and things were green so to hide the red of blood, we still use green materials now
