Whats the planning requirements for a conservatory and will the sales rep for doubleglazing deal with this?
Question:Not for looking at stars but for home comforts and home improvements.
Answers:
Ring the council. If the conservatory isn't going to (i) exceed a certain percentage of the size of your house and (ii) is within a certain size, you may not need planning permission but we had to have it even though our conservatory was within those limits because the of the area in which we live. The conservatory company dealt with the application for us for an additional charge but we could have done it ourselves.
It is really important to make sure you get planning permission and building regulations if required (if, for example, you are having a radiator running from your central heating system to heat it). Without planning permission you could be forced to take the conservatory down.
If you have a leasehold property, get a copy of the lease or phone the freeholders or their agents and make sure you don't have to get their consent to having it built.
I am assuming you're from the UK.
A quick phone call to your local council will answer it for you.
It isn't the sales reps responsibility to get planning for you unfortunately, but most likely you will find that no permission is needed provided the conservatory is within certain size limits. Usually this is based on the original size of the property
You don't say which country, I get two points!
Good answer from Guinnell. There are a lot of factors which determine if you need planning permission, i.e. size. postion and whether there are any planning restrictions in your area. There is also the consideration of whether there are any covenants on your deeds. You can speak to your local Planning Dept for that element of the job but don't forget that even if they tell you no permission is required that does not override your deeds. Talk to the council but if you are in any doubt I will advise you free of charge if you contact me through the website shown below.
