What color would you paint our master bedroom?
Question:I'm trying to work with a comforter set given to us by my Mother-in-Law. It's a pretty dark blue and grayish blue pattern, kind of a grand floral design. Very elegant. The bedskirt and sheets are a darkish gray blue and white. Our headboard and furniture is a medium cherry wood.
I always wanted to paint our room a deep burgundy, but I think it'll look weird with the bedding. I think painting the walls white is too boring and blue just seems like it would be "blue-overkill". The hall that leads to our room is a muted "army" green. The doors and trim are white. Haven't picked window treatments yet.
Suggestions? I'm very open to ideas. Maybe even wall paper? Please give me ideas...the room is currently painted a light lime green and we can't handle much longer....

I agree with you that blue would be a bit much. It is hard to say without seeing the bedspread, but I can say what colors look good with blue. Brown, any form of brown, looks wonderful with blue. You could use a lighter shade of brown if the bedspread is dark. Also, yellow looks good with blue. I don't know what the pattern looks like, but if these colors wouldn't work, you may have to stick with a deep gray shade. Is there anyway you could find a pic of the bedspread online and post it?
maybe a grayish blue... more Gray... than blue. do a neutral color... so that if you change the room again less work...
I would suggest a light gray-blue color. I would go with something lighter because it sounds like the comforter and your furniture are dark. I think wall paper may make the room look too busy. What color is the carpet/ flooring in that room. That may impact what color you choose also.

I too agree with the over blue feeling.
I was going to suggest a light green, but you say you already have lime-green.
So my next bet would be a light beige color.
Or a verrrrrrrrrry pastel version of the cherry wood!
Pick up on the grayish blue color. It will lighten the room but still pull it together. The burgundy wouldn't go with your new set. Wall paper is labor intensive and can look very busy so picking the appropriate design requires some time and talent.
Try to capitalize on the color in the cherry wood, it should be slightly orangish. Orange and blue are complementary colors. Don't be drastically orange, obviously that would look silly. But maybe something like: http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/dc_faux_colorwa...
I would paint it Elizabeth street blue.
