We were in the exact situation a month ago when we started to remodel and redecorate our home.
We started in the library.
1. There are magazines like Architectural Digest which shows both interior and exterior designs.
2. There are books which are specific for what room you are modelling... e.g. bathroom, kitchen, deck, etc.
3. There video and software programs for designing rooms as well
Next, whenever there is a house for sale in our neighborhood we go there to check. Coz usually, realtor put good designs on houses.
We also went to showrooms like for bathroom tiles, there are big showrooms showing different trends. One of our dilemna is the kitchen floor. Some like the look of hardwood and some like durability of porcelain tile(the most durable flooring). There is a new product which is porcelain tile where the design is hardwood, so you get the best of both worlds. It is called woodtec.
Also Home Depot has a specialty store called Expo where there are architects all over the store and you can ask for advice for free while you look around. Just go to homedepot.com to look for the nearest store.
And of course, there is the TV. Home extreme makeover is our favorite.
P.S. Labor for remodelling can be costly. There are now website where contractors bid for the project u want. Similar to ebay. That way, you can save BIG TIME.
