Black out curtains?
Question:does any1 know what fabric i need in order to make my own black out curtains for the summer and winter?

There's not a certain specific fabric you should use, just make sure it's super dense and heavy. The darker, the better, too. Also, when hanging the curtains, make sure you make them wider and longer than the window so no light comes in the sides.

I was looking for the material, and found that you can buy it by the yard. However, it was cheaper in the pre-finished packages. You just tie it to the back for your existing curtains.
To go really inexpensive, add in roller blinds (JC Penny’s has great cut to order ones that are really inexpensive) then top with a heavy weight curtain. I hung the rollers on the wall, under the curtains, when they are rolled up you do not even know they are there.
You can also find foam backed already made curtains, which normally run less than the cost of the material alone. If you have a great fabric outlet in your area, then you might be able to find the fabric cheaper, however you might not get enough of the color to finish all of your windows.
Black out curtains do work, but unless they are somehow kept close to the window opening, you'll still have light coming through the edges.
If you want to truly darken a room well, I recommend a multi-cellular room darkening shade. 3-4 rows of pleated shade with an aluminum pleat(for heat reduction) and or colors (for light redux.) this will minimize the light entering the room, then you can have dark or light curtains and not have to worry about the expense of the cat/dog ripping the curtains to shreds.
You can use blackout liner on most drapes, from JoAnn Fabric. This is a heavy liner that would work best on the back of thicker fabric. You wouldn't put it on the back of something sheer, obviously. Ask for Euro-Premium Blackout drapery panels.
