The price of a gallon of paint varies with the amount of sheen the paint has. Flat paint which has the lowest sheen, and is usually not very durable can be bought at Wal Mart/Lowes/Home Depot for about $10 gallon.
If you need a more durable paint that can be easily cleaned select a sheen such as "eggshell" or "satin" but expect to pay several dollars per gallon more.
in my experience... now this will also depend from state to state to sometimes area within the state. Walmart being the lowest at about $10-12 & Kmart running behind them. Home Depot & Lowes.. .the lowest I've seen is $15 to $23.00 & then u get into u'r prof. paint stores which run as high as $40. but if u watch for sales u can get them cheaper accept for Walmart or K-mart.
You can use cheap paint from wal-mart(about 10 dollars a gallon) if you don't mind painting again in a year or less or you can get good quality paint (20 dollars a gallon) and it will last several years. A 12 foot by 12 foot room will probably take a gallon and a half. Good luck !!
