maybe this will interest you.
give him several cans of spray paint, and let him do the decorating.... it's his room, right? let him have fun with it, this is something he can do, every yr, as his love of sports changes,
I found this site:

Remember, you can probably make some of the stuff yourself, or maybe "easier" versions! Either way, it's a good way to get ideas!
...how about a goal net as a headboard with soccer ball pillows?!

I saw a kid's room in a book recently that was themed around soccer, and looked great.. They stenciled soccer balls onto the bottom of roller shades for the windows. Laminate wood flooring was on the floor with tape marking goal lines, and they turned an empty modern-looking fireplace into a goal by putting in a net. The room was painted with team colors (red and white for this boy), but if your son hasn't started on a team yet you can pair his favorite color with white for a really clean look.

**EDIT** I found the book- it's called 'creative spaces for kids' and the author is 'hamlyn'. Hope this helps- for any more ideas feel free to email me! :) ♡
a friend of mine did something that was pretty cool.. take felt and cover the wall with it. then cut out what ever you want out of more felt. if the felt doesnt stick to each other (some will some wont) than get some velcro.. you will only need one side of it... then your son can rearrange what ever you put on the wall. if you dont glue it to the wall you can pull it back down when he has grown out of it...if he gets bored with what is there..just make something different
Check out HGTV and DIY networks sites-they have a backlog of ideas. Also if Extreme Home makeover has a site-some of the kids rooms are extreme beyond what you'd do but great for ideas. Sounds funny but Pottery Barn Kids is great for ideas too. I did murals in model homes and such for 30 years. What about (remember its always darker on the wall) soft blue sky with clouds (use those toss way brushes and beat the clouds and scrub them-practice on foam core first-if its kind of dry brushed it almost looks airbrushed) to halfway point. A nice grass green down below chairrail or maybe about 20-30" up. I saw a room with a photo wall mural in a model too where they used a chain link fence (you could buy a gate so its "finished"-for a headboard and it looked like you where looking thru it into a stadium-it was awesome and clean. You could even spray paint it black to clean it up instead of the silver color they are-Krylon paint is great. The bed spread could be green too with sports ball pillows. I know you can even get the beanbags as soccer and footballs etc.Have fun-do a search of the photo murals too-even if just for ideas-like on American Wallpapers etc-
If he's only three, a can of spray paint might not work out too well. I'd start with a soccer themed bedding set, then just add accessories and accents from there. They don't have to be overly elaborate if you don't want them too.

A soccer throw rug for instance, which looks like a ball or a playing field. You could even add soccer drawer pulls to the dresser, or mount them on a bookcase as either decoration or as bookends.

You can also find various clings in a soccer theme, and allow him to rearrange those on the wall or window any way he'd like. You might also want to try posters and pictures on the walls for added decoration, or stencil soccer related borders or accents on the walls too.
