How much does it cost to hire construction workers to remodel?
Question:How much is the average cost? Does it go by the hour or by the project? thanks.
Answers:
i've done both. I've hired contractors by the hour and by the project. I prefer paying by the project. If you pay by the hour, sometimes the contruction slows done.
I personally noticed my workers taking longer and longer doing the remodeling when i was paying by hour. Then when i confronted them, in a polite way, they got all defensive and gave excuse after excuse which made a somewhat bad working environment. if you pay by the project, i find it motivates the workers to work a little faster so they can finish and move onto the next one.
Call up several different contractors, ask your friends and family if they have any references. Then get a couple bids. Remember, the lowest bid isn't always the best. When you meet with the contractors, you can discuss payment with them.
Remodeling projects varying greatly so it's hard to give any type of average. What are you remodeling? A kitchen? the whole house? Is there going to be plumbing or electrical done? those can increase prices greatly and you may need permits.
With my contractor, i explained to him that i needed to charge all the materials on my credit card so i can get the miles! He totally understood and just charged me for labor.
Labor for a remodel of a 2bd/2ba apartment with recessed lighting, washer/dryer hookups, new shower/tubs, tile, granite, cabinet doors, hardwood floors, reframing 2 closets.cost me around $21,000-$23,000.
I work for a general contractor in Florida. He has some clients that pay a set price with a signed contract and some that pay for time and material (which is marked up before being billed to the customer). His hourly rate is $65. If I had
the choice, I would go with a signed contract and a set price.
