Decorating, how can I make sure not to have too much going on?

Choose a lot of solids. I don't like patterns anyway, and they look much too busy. I also read an article recently that 1 piece of furniture out of every 3 should be removed. So check your rooms to make sure that you do not have too much furn.
Avoid clutter. Keep the tops of furniture neat and clean. Avoid too many clashing patterns.
Just stop yourself. I feel less stressed in an uncluttered environment, and all the figurines and tons of stuff on the walls feels like too much to me. Plus you have to dust all of it. Go check some pictures on the net of minimalist decor. When you go shopping and see something adorable, don't do it. Put the money in a vacation fund instead.
