Help! Any hope for my (expensive) paintbrushes?
Question:I thought I had properly cleaned my paint brushes but a day later and they are a bit stiff and some bristles sticking together. I know advice now about how to clean them but is there anything I can do to try and revive my favorite and expensive brushes? I used them with indoor latex paint.
Answers:
Let them soak in a strong solution pf TSP (trisoduimphosphate) for a day or two. Use a wire brush to clean them going with the bristles, not against. If you can, separate the bristles in half length wise & you may see the metal they are attached to. Clean this real well.
I say look at lowes and home depot and see which on is lower or if there still to high ofa price for you, I say go to a used place were they sell stuff and you might find a good paint brush.
Put them in a zip lock baggie with just alittle cooking oil zip they will be as good as new
Try soaking them overnight, in hot water at first (it's gonna cool) . Latex is water-based, so use water to clean them.
You might want to add some mild dish soap to the water at first.
If there is still paint dried in the brush, try Dawn, hot water and a fork. Forks work well for getting in between the bristles. I have also brought some stiff brushes back to life just by using hair shampoo like you would was your own hair.
