Should I buy a white couch?
Question:I'm looking at a microfiber couch but it only comes in red and white, I love the couch design a lot and it's a super steal but don't know if a white couch would be livable...i have a 6 year old and we plan on getting a kitten. But I do love the idea of being able to switch up the colors around it, anything goes with white. The people at the furniture stores tell me its fine that they clean really easy and can get the messiest things out just by wiping it with soap and water. Will a white couch not last me as long as a colored couch? Should I keep looking?
Answers:
there is always couch cover if it is the style you like.
get a black leather couch, your bf will love you.
Microfibre is an excellent material and very easy to clean... but I still would not buy one in a light color... esp white.
My sister in law has a gorgeous beige microfibre sofa. She also has 2 large dogs. The gorgeous couch is now covered in not so pretty sheets to hide stains and protect the color.
If you're set on white... perhaps invest in some SureFit sofa covers. They come in white microfibre and can be taken off and cleaned when dirty.
Micro fiber does clean up nicely. I had a light yellow micro fiber couch once and it did clean up well (I have cats), even when I accidentally smeared oil pastel on it.
On the other hand, do you really want to contiously clean your couch? It won't be just your six year old and the kitten, ordinary use will also get it dirty. I have to admit that I got tired of having to wash mine all the time. And after a while, it started looking pretty worn.
I would not get a white couch with an animal or children, kids have to learn about spills and such. The Furniture store people are wrong..soap and water doesn't cut it.
I own 2 white couchs.........
of course the sales people are going to tell you that they want the sale. white couches are for rooms that nobody lives in, trust me.
a six year old, a kitten, and a white sofa??? i think not!! but if you should choose to go with it....GOOD LUCK!! besides, you can mix and match with red as well! use your imagination!
Buy it and then get white slipcovers for it.
You don't have to give up the style you like and
the slipcovers can be cleaned for less money.
("just by wiping it with soap and water", I think they are telling you so you buy it...some stains are not that easy to get out of couches!), The quality of the materials the couch is made out of is what determines how long it will last...
If you can get the white slipcovers custom made at a good price, go for the couch you already like!
If you want your sofa to keep looking good, invest in a set of Sure-fit slipcovers, or some kind of slipcovers. Use them from day one, or your sofa will look like crap in no time! This is good advice for any sofa, by the way. The slip-covers can just be taken off and thrown in the wash as needed, and are cheaper to replace when worn out , or stained beyond redemption, than the whole sofa. 6-year-olds are magnets for things that stain, and are adept at finding the only crayon or non-washable marker in the whole house, believe that! In the course of raising my kids, I have learned how to get out every kind of stain imaginable, and which ones won't come out with anything short of dynamite! A darkish pattern is your best bet for stain hiding! If you love the sofa, cover it and enjoy. If you entertain, take off the cover and let your guests be amazed at how clean and beautiful your sofa is! Good luck!
Ok well microfiber is really soft and easy to clean but if you have a cat or a dog the fur gets on it ALOT. And also white probally wouldnt be the BEST choice but if you really want that color go for a more off white like a cream. but the best thing to do would be keep looking there is something out there like a light brown couch or black those work a little better. =]
