Can you get aHouse for little or no cost?
Question:I remember seeing something online a while ago about houses for sale for little or no money, you would then be responsible for moving the house onto your own land. I was just wondering if anyone knew where I could get info on a deal like that. I have a piece of land that I want to build a house on but the cost of a custom built home is high and I thought moving an already built house might be a cheaper option.

I don't know where to find deals like that though I have heard of them. You could possibly put an ad in some local or regional type newspapers. I do know the cost of moving a house can be high. Do find out everything that is invovled in moving a house. First you have to find someone willing to haul it. Then they have to be jacked up off their foundations and other things have to be done to make them ready to travel down a road. Sometimes the company moving it can do this or in some cases you may be able to do some of the work yourself. Really look into the cost, the work, and the risks invovled. If you decide to do something like this you might want to make sure you, the house, and moving company are all insured. Ever consider a modular or mobile home?
There are not deals that will give you a home for little or not money. You get what you pay for. If you want a small, inexpensive home shop for one and buy it. Moving a home is very difficult and expensive and when you are done, you have an old beat up home.
I suspect it would be a tent! But good luck!
Homes or old railway stations that are scheduled for demolition for another building or park may be sold for $1, but you must pay $60-80,000 or more to move them.
Check with a Realtor or local news editor at your paper to see if any are available.
The houses in those deals are typically "fixer-uppers" or repos... they're AS IS and YOU are responsible for the costs of moving it (which can run into the tens of thousands), and if there are any structural or mechanical deficiencies in the house, you're STUCK.
I would suggest getting either a nice manufactured home or having a house kit installed. My inlaws just put up a house kit (they lost their house in the San Diego wildfires in 2003), and it's absolutely GORGEOUS.
It was probably a scam nothing is free now of days.
There are a lot of way of getting a home on a piece of land. My suggestion is to make a way to live on the land until you can build the home you want to live in.
I would get an inexpensive mobile home, live in it, build my new home, move in to my new home and sell the mobile home.
Well no matter how you go about it my best advice is to build with cash. I would try not to go into dept to build. You will enjoy your house much better if you own it.
