What's the best hardwood floor to use?

Question:im changing my carpets to hardwood floor, at first i wanted to use bamboo but a few people told me it doesnt last like the other ones. i need something that is durable, i got kids and my brother likes to bring his 2 dogs here for a visit too.

Answers:
I would definitely recommend Oak. It's very durable and has a nice even finish. The planks are also thicker than most other woods, which means you can sand it down and refinish it multiple times without a problem. That's not the case with other woods.

I would go with Oak. Either red or what they call Clear are very good choices. If you want to stain it a different color go for it. They are easy to maintain - you may have to re polyurethane every few years - and they look great.

Good luck! Hard wood floors are the way to go!
the bamboo is just as hard as the oak. it depends on the brand, you can try scratching the samples at the dealer, I DO!
pitchpine`s your best bet mrs!
if durability is the primary concern then oak or maple is best . The oak has a heavy grain pattern and some folks do not like that , maple is more subtle, and still a very hard durable wood. If you want someting with just a little less duability than oak and maple which a very versitile look to it ,that will accomodate any type decor ,consider hickory, I am a contractor in the luxury home market and it is one of the most popular hardwoods out there right now.
