I accidently ran a lighter through my dryer with a full load of clothes. Can I use the dryer without fear?
Question:I turned on the dryer for a minute without any clothes, and there was a slight smell. I just want to know that the dryer isn't going to blow up next time I use it.
Answers:
JUST IN CASE:
re-wash all the clothes
wash down the inside of the dryer with a wet washrag or dishrag, and let it air dry with door open for a while. [ couple of hours ]

you should be fine, use the dryer;)
yeah you can use it i have ran lighters through the washer and dryer and never have i blown up
While the disclaimer on dryers states to not dryer clothes that have been subjected to flammable liquids such as gas or, in this case, lighter fluid, using common sense by leaving the dryer door open for a reasonable length of time will suffice to remove any combustible fumes. If you want to be absolutely positive, wipe out the inside with a damp, soapy cloth. However, understand that it won't be the liquid that catches fire, but rather the fumes. Thirty minutes of airing out should do the trick if the fumes haven't already been purged.
The answer may depend on what type of lighter it was. If it was a butane fueled lighter (as most are these days), any danger might have been is surely passed.
If, however it was a liquid. "lighter fluid" type, then you may want to run the dryer "air only" for a few minutes.
I have accidentally washed both kinds of lighters and placed them in the dryer, unknowingly. Nothing has ever happenned. Dont worry, it will be fine.
I do this all the time..It is always the times when I forget to check the pockets. With out fail. But yes it is fine you wont explode or start a fire. Even in the super dryers at the laundry mat.The only thing that sometimes happens is the little silver part falls off.
My husband has left lighters in his pants when I cleaned them and dryed them also. I use the dryer still and nothing happened. - My dryer didn't explode.
I do it all the time...Im continually leaving lighters in my pockets. Ive never had a problem. Wet lighters dont light, how could the gas escape if the button is not depressed? Dont worry...if theres a smell its gotta be something else.
