Do you put utensils in the dishwasher face up or face down?

The only reason to put things upside down, is to keep it from filling with water. If it doesn't hold water,don't worry about it.
Knives face down, everything else face up
up- except knives down
i put them face up . i figure that the forks, spoons, knives can better be cleaned when they are in the upward position. larger utensils such as the flippers, serving spoons, tongs, bigger chopping knives i place in top of my dishwasher. if your dishwasher hasn't had a recent treatment of jet dry, i would suggest one. my stuff just seems so much cleaner since/ dries nicer since i have been using the stuff. take care.
i am the dishwasher, but i still dry my cutlery face up to minimize spots.
