Can I get my blacks black again?

Question:I have a black Raiders cap, and its starting to fade from the crisp, deep black it used to be. I dont want to just get a new one, as I got it at my first Raiders game at the Coliseum.

Whats the best thing to use or best way to help restore it to a better looking condition? I cant just soak it in dye, because the embroidered emblem is silver, obviously, but I dont know what other ways there are to recolor fabrics.

Answers:
Here is what you can do. Cover the embroidery with painters, masking or duct tape. Purchase some liquid Rit dye at the craft, fabric or grocery store. Submerge the hat in extremely hot water. Pour the dye into a glass container and use a paint brush to paint it on the hat. Make certain to saturate the fabric all the way through. Allow the hat to completely dry (you can "heat" set the dye with a blow dryer or by putting it on a rack in the dryer, or running the dishwasher on a high heat dry with no dishes in it and the hat on the top shelf). Then, submerge the hat in a container of white vinegar to set the dye and keep it from transferring to your head when it sweats. The vinegar smell will dissapate if you use the heat method mentioned above to dry the hat again. Another product you can use to achieve the desired results is fabric paint from the craft store and use the heat set method with that as well.

I thought once you go black you never go back? Hmm..
thats a really good question...if theres a silver emblem, then i dont think theres much of a way to get your blacks black again. the only thing i can think of is painting it over carefully with black shoe polish (sounds so dumb but my friend did it once) but if you wash it again, it might end up fading again or the black might leak into the emblem. good luck!
I don't know if this detergent would help or if it would ruin the silver. (Perwoll Black Magic) You can read about it at amazon.com. They have other detergents that are to prevent fading, I think Woolite has one, but I don't know if they deposit color too. I've read about people covering bleach spots on clothes with Tria markers, but don't know if you want to color an entire hat with them! (pearlpaint.com)
you might could try taping the emblems really well and mixing the black die with water in a spray bottle and just spray it on being very careful not to get it on the silver. that would be my only solution. also when you wash it use wish for dark colors.
