I am a stay at home mom and I do a load of laundry a day and some times two loads a day. I also make sure all the dishes are done at night so I don't have to look at them in the morning. I am lucky enough to have birthed two dish washers. Ha Ha.
I second the http:\\www.Flylady.net suggestion. They'll help you set up a regular schedule of doing things so that they don't pile up and overwhelm you and your home.

Clean as you go - when you finish using a pot, wash it and set it to drain. When the stove cools after cooking, wipe it down with a dishcloth.

Try doing one load of laundry every day, start to finish. Keeps it from being a bit chore.

Run the dishwasher every day or wash the dishes and put them away before you go to bed.
I also like the flylady suggestions. I also find that if I time myself it helps as well. Like, I will do the dishes for just five minutes. Sometimes I find that I am done or that I don't want to stop. It really amazing how little time these boring jobs actually take. Also, I don't fold laundry. I hang everything up, even T shirts. i don't like folding and can't be bothered with it! Also good music while you are working. Good. Now maybe I will go do my dishes now!
Take it from a single Dad, who is still raising 3 disabled children....LEARN to Multi Task. Make out a sort of schedule: what must be done, what can wait and what you would like to accomplish. I normally have the clothes in the washer/dryer, load the dishwasher and run it, while I vacuum, wash floors etc. If you just set your mind to doing a certain number of tasks at a certain time and stick to it for 2 weeks, it will become a habit. I plan my meals one day ahead, asking the kids what they want, it is now a habit and they enjoy choosing, you take out anything that needs to be thawed, can pick up any ingredients not on hand, come home and prepare knowing everyone will be happy, Bath time is always at the same time, bed time the same. If you have a favorite program on TV then plan around it, but don't forget about any work not completed. House work is a job plain and simple, you can take all day to complete it or you can Get Busy and do it in 2 hours....your choice.
I find myself much more motivated since I got married. The team approach seems to work great for us, we can use the time to chat about the day's events or what we want to make for supper.
Just whistle while you work-Snow White? Anyway, listening to music helps the time pass quickly when I am performing a chore.
You can't get on FindHomeAnswerss until the sink is cleaned out and one load is going in the washer and dryer. ;-)

I (sometimes) try to start the day off right. After my shower, I start laundry, then unload the dishwasher from the night before & reload, by then the washer might be ready to be emptied and a new load can be started.
I'm a very unstructured person. I like to do things at odd times, like late at night I love to clean and that's when I have excess energy. Find your own timing that works for you. Even if you have a burst of energy for 15 min. then find something to do like wash down the shower or file a bunch of receipts. It's amazing what you can get done if you just say "I'll do this one thing right now." I will never be a schedule person when it comes to cleaning and so what - I don't care! lol Try some coffee and music if you really need a kick in the tush.
The best way I can make myself do something I dont want to do is MAKE myself do it by this rule of the thumb. They say if you put away or throw away 10 items in your house it gives you a sence of organization you wont believe how much better you will feel it gives you the gumption to do MORE try it now put away or throw away 10 things right now and see the difference you will feel about tasks and chores in your home. It will make you want to keep going and you will be amazed at the amount of work you will get done.
