How do i use the self-cleaning oven feature?
Question:
Answers:
The basic idea is "burn baby, burn!"
Self-cleaning ovens use an approximately 900 degrees Fahrenheit (482 degrees Celsius) temperature cycle to burn off spills leftover from baking, without the use of any chemicals. A self-cleaning oven is designed with a mechanical interlock (patented in 1982) to keep the oven door locked and closed during and soon after the high-temperature cleaning cycle, which can be approximately three hours. The door stays locked to prevent burn injuries. You can open the oven door after the oven cools to approximately 600 F (315 C).
If baking spills are not wiped up after baking, there may be some smoke during an oven cleaning cycle. It is a good idea to remove any pets from the area when running the oven's self-cleaning cycle. There have been reports of oven-heated Teflon-coated items releasing odorless fumes deadly to birds.
Self-cleaning ovens have the added benefit of more insulation, which helps the energy efficiency for regular baking. This is similar in concept to an increased R-factor for home insulation.
You will also save energy costs by using the self-cleaning cycle right after baking, to make use of the already partially heated oven.
Did you get a book with your stove, it should tell you how to use the self-cleaning
Set the oven's locking feature to locked/closed, set the dial to self cleaning. Normally the timer starts with approximately 4 hours on a count down. The self cleaning operation runs for 3-4 hours on most ovens. The oven will go to a high heat and burn off the grime. After the oven has cooled, go in with a damp paper towel and wipe out the dust from the spills/splatters.
I use to clean for the military when the families moved out of housing. I have cleaned alto of stoves and the "self-cleaning" oven feature doesn't work. It's supposed to burn all the stuff left in there but you will end up in the end having to hand clean it any way. I'd go and get some oven cleaner and spray the stove. (Don't use it with the self cleaning feature) After you wipe it down then you can use a Brillo pad and scrub at what didn't come off. After that if your mad you can use a straight razor to scrap the rest of it off. Good luck.
First of all take the racks out of the oven. Some ovens have a locking mechanism on the oven door.If this is the case, move it into the locked position, press the self clean button(if necessary)
and wait.Once it has finished, allow it to cool and wipe it clean.
