I keep a very clean house, but there is still a funny smell coming from the basement?

Question:I have looked everywhere for it, it smells like stinky feet, there is nothing there besides some boxes and canned goods, etc. I keep the laundry done.

Answers:
Very possibly from sewer pipes; Pour Baking soda into drains, after a while pour some vinegar, lemon juice or soda pop. hen watch the bubbles go to work :)

Have you tried odor eliminators such as Febreze or even Lysol? They do help a lot.
Put a small dehumidifier down there should make the difference.
was there any mafioso living there previously?
check out the basement for any thing freaky.
Try freshners and things, but see if maybe its too damp down there. A dehumidifyer might help
Maybe open some windows in the house and run a fan in the basement for a day?
CHECK FOR DEAD MICE, THEY WILL STINK YOUR WHOLE HOUSE UP.LOL
What are in the boxes that may be spoiling? do you have a leak somewhere, where water is dripping and it dripping on the floor or on the boxes?

That is just a sign of mould somewhere if there is water dripping somewhere either comming from the walls or dripping on your basement ceiling then it will mould if it stays there. I'd have it checked out and if you cannot pin point the source yourself, then I would call the professionals to scan the problem.
It is possible that it is in the walls, dampness can cause odors, you might need a dehumidifier. to remove the dampness if that is it. meanwhile take a few bowls of white vinegar and place them around the basement, vinegar is a natural odor eater, leave them down there for at least 3 days, I'm sure you will see the difference.
It might be a dead rat in the basement or between the walls.Since that does happen.Try the plug ins they work really good.
spray some vinegar, it acts like febreeze but better! it eats up all bacterial from the air that is causing bad odors.
Check your sewer connection for one, do you have a city sewer line or a septic tank buried under the back yard? It may have a leak. Next check and make sure there are no holes where mice may have crawled in and died. You can have a sterile environment but if it gets cold they will come in and if there is nothing to eat... they may pass away in a tiny hole somewhere and smell after awhile. Also check for chemical leakage
I agree with the dehumidifier answer. My basement is cement and it still gets a funky smell in summer especially. Guess I'll be going to get a dehumidifier too, lol.
