I have these woolen gloves with no washing label on them, help!?

Question:they are white fingerless, woolen gloves with no washing label on them but they are getting pretty grubby, how should i wash them and at what temperature?

Answers:
hand wash cold with woolite

wool usually needs to be dry cleaned...good luck
Hand wash them in luke warm water using a detergent for woolens.
put them in a wool wash 40%but not with colours and they will come up like new
Good advice about Woolite...cool water, gentle squeezing after a short soak...then roll them in a bath-towel and squeeze out the rest of the water. Air dry on another towel or absorbent surface...NEVER put in the dryer unless your teddy bear needs gloves next winter!
Cold water, mild detergent (Dove or Ivory that you have at your sink for dishes is fine) & do not agitate or they will turn to felt. Dry flat on a towel after you stretch them ("blocking" as knitters call it) back into shape.

Here is some more info from the Amer Sheep Industry Assn (http://www.sheepusa.org/):
HAND-WASHING Follow these suggestions when laundering woolen garments labeled hand-washable.
• Make a paper pattern of knits by tracing the outline of the garment.
• Wash in lukewarm or cold water using a mild soap or liquid detergent (which contains no bleach) according to directions.
• Soak for 3-5 minutes, gently squeezing suds through
without twisting or wringing the garment.
• Rinse twice in clean water that is the same temperature as the wash water.
• Gently squeeze out excess water and roll the garment
in a towel to absorb excess water.
• For knits, lay the pattern on a dry towel and pin the
garment to the pattern, smoothing to its original shape.
• Dry away from sunlight and direct heat.

Another very helpful website; they advertise "probably more than you want to know about wool" ... From the section called 'Why wool shrinks or why you want to avoid washing machines:'
"In the microscopic view, that is under a microscope, the outside of the wool fibers look like they are made from overlapping shingles, like shingles on the roof of your house. When wool gets wet and heat and agitation is present, wool has a tendency to overlap and lock the shingles. Thus the impression of shrinking is created. This is inherent in all wool fibers! Wool is wool and the only way to maintain a wool garmets size and avoid shrinking is to let it dry in a cool area and block or stretch out the shingles when the fabric is still wet. Dry cleaning is the surest means of cleaning without shrinking. You can hand wash but the clothing must be cared for properly." Check out their site:

Hand wash in cool water with any gentle handwash detergent
wash them in lukewarm water with a little washing up liquid, dont wring them, fold them in a towel to remove excess water and dry them flat.
put warm water in a basin. a squirt of washing up .put your gloves on your hands and rub to gether as if washing your hands then finally rinse in warm water(dont rinse in cold water or they will shrink) OK!
hi use a cool hand wash with some gentle powder or liquid - they will clean up nicely then.
