What can I use to clean my glass top stove?
Question:Don't say "razor blade" or "ceramabrite"
Answers:
My Mom has a glass top stove and we have tried about every thing out there. The thing that works the absolute best is soft scrub with bleach and lemons. Regular soft scrub works ok too but the lemons give an extra boost rub on a thin coat of soft scrub, Then squeeze the juice of a lemon over the top of it and then rub it all in together. Take a nylon scrubbie and scrub away any tough spots that are left like the ring around the burners where the most of the blackness forms. Wipe down with some paper towels to get the majority of the soft scrub off then wash with a warm wash cloth. To shine it back up we always just spray it down with some vinegar and water mix or any glass cleaner and buff with a soft towel. It will be sparkling clean in no time. I don't know if I would put WD40 on there (as one post suggested) it says right on the can to keep it away from heat sources, It may cause a fire. Good luck getting yours to look shiny new, It is not that hard to do.
Easy Off.
Cerama Bryte (Different spelling ...)
How about glass cleaner? Comet Soft Scrub is what I use for my stove.
How To Clean A Stove Top
If your stovetop is fairly clean spray it with KC1000 Heavy or Grease Cutting Multi-purpose cleaner and wipe it with a terry cleaning cloth. But if you have gone without cleaning it for a while, that is a different story. If your stove has grease and burnt on food, it is best to use Grease Grizzly or KC1000 undiluted. Spray the entire stovetop, except for the electric burners if you have them. Let stand for about 15 minutes. Use a white nylon scrubber with sponge to scrub any hard to clean places. Then wipe clean with a terry cleaning cloth. Depending on how dirty your stove is, you may have to repeat the process again. If your drip pans just don't come clean throw them away and buy new ones. They are so cheap at Home Depot. If you have a glass stove top use a cleaner like Windex. Don't use an all-purpose cleaner since that will make the surface streak. Here is a tip: The way to keep your stovetop clean and looking new is to never cook on it. I am just joking. No, the way to keep it clean is to wipe it frequently. That means after every use or when you spill something on it.
Tip: If you have kids in the house always use the back burner when cooking. Also turn the handles toward the back of the stove. If you are purchasing a new stove, be sure that you get one with knots in the back instead on the front.
windex
mix a solution of 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water. its non-toxic and works well. and the vinegar smell goes away once it dries.
The best product for this is Weiman's Cleaning Creme for Smooth Top Ranges.
I have used this for 5 years now. It lasts a long time and is made specifically for glass-ceramic cooktops. Happy cleaning:)
dessinfectent or something by MR.clean
Easyoff works pretty good. Yeah I tried ceramabrite (eew!)
I know that the no drip Windex works very well on my stove top but it's not glass though windex works on most everything.
baking soda paste works great.
just mix a little bit of water with some baking soda.
Wal mart has a stove top cleaner, but I have found it is just like soft scrub.
When I got my new stove I was thrilled until I realized how difficult it was to clean. Since you can only use non-abrasive cleaners on it, buy a cleaner specifically made for the glass topped stoves. I live in Canada and there are no American brands of this product, but in Canada I buy VIM. The trick, though, is in the cleaning pad itself ! There are sponges made for this purpose. They are extra-thick, antibacterial scouring sponges, but you have to read the fine print on the back of the packs because only certain ones are designed for glasstops.
I am SERIOUS .. this one product cut out an hour per day of cleaning time for me because I cook 3 meals a day. The scouring pad itself was my lifesaver ..Just read the fine print and Good Luck !
since it is glass i would use a glass cleaner
use only warm soapy water then ceramic cooktop cleaner and polish.do this in that order and your cooking surface will continue to look good.DO NOT USE WINDEX OR ANY OTHER GLASS CLEANER.!I sell appliances and I cannot stress this enough.
When I first got my glass top stove a few years ago, I thought that I could only use the products made specifically for them. Then three different people all told me to try Soft Scrub, and now that's ALL I use. Just put some on a dampened paper towel and clean the whole top. If you have spill-overs, you'll have to pay more attention to that area, sometimes adding more of the cleaner directly on the stove top and scrubbing (still with the paper towel). Rinse it with a wet paper towel or two..and then just go over it with a dry one. Works great!
I use a warm soapy water (Dawn) and a sponge or towel. Then I rinse the towel and go over the stove with the wet (with just water) towel. I dry it with a dry towel. Then I shine it up with a 1/2 water 1/2 white distilled vinegar mixture.
I feel for you dear. I have the same problem. These stove tops were a nice idea but a real problem to clean!! I am still trying different things and have yet to find the right cleaner.
I haven't tried this yet myself but have heard that the hand cleaner that mechanics use will cut through the grease. Someone else suggested WD40 to help keep it clean.
Something else I will suggest is the clean the bottoms of your pot and pans as well. This will ensure your cook top will be easier to clean in the future.
My sympathies!! Good luck!!
I wanted one of these stoves so bad.....as the saying goes...be careful what you wish for! lol
