Ask Barry Scott he sells the sh*t!!
Hi, I`m BATTY SPROTT have you tried Universal stain and drain?
no? I don`t blame you it`s fu*kin useless as well.
If you know the suppliers of your fireplace then phone them or contact a local stone mason and tell them what you have done. This is what i would do but you do not have to follow my advice - i would generously wet the stone then using a hot Iron over brown paper would damp-press the stain out. This may or may not work but it certainly does on Granite surfaces but be careful not to set fire to the paper or you will have a different problem altogether!!
oops try bicarbonate of soda with a little white vinegar, mixed together like a paste apply on a damp cloth and rub in circular movements good luck
