What to do about Pillow Shams?
Question:I have a bright green cotton comforter set with pillow shams. I don't sleep in the comforter but I use the same pillows with the shams that go with it. Anyway, I wash all my sheets including the shams every week of course, but I notice that the shams are not as bright as the comforter. Is it because I'm washing them too much? How do I brighten them up, if it's possible? I appreciate any help out there because it's my favorite set!! Thanks!

Two reasons: You wash them constantly and you sleep on them. You can try to revive the color with rit color whitener and brightener- safe for colors! I always let them soak longer than it says though! If not try washing the comforter to tone down the green! I have four pillows on my bed. When I go to sleep at night I pull the shams off my bed and sleep with the other two. That way my shams stay nice, bright, and clean! I wash my comforter and my shams once a month or once every other month- it depends!
You may not be able to brighten your shams back to 100% because you have been washing them. If they are just dingy then the fabric brightener should help! Otherwise, you may have washed out some of the color! Best of Luck!
I would agree with the earlier answer, you've probably washed the dye out of the shams. Not much you can do to restore the color. I would try washing the comforter to tone down the green. Shams are really decorative and not meant to be slept on. Put a pillowcase on the pillow inside the sham and remove the pillow to sleep on it, or have two other pillows that you can sleep on and set the shams aside.
