Wrinkles in carpets?
Question:What is the easiest way to remove wrinkles from a carpet, I have a new carpet that has been lying in my garage for a couple of days before getting laid and now it has wrinkles in it.
Thanks for any advice
Answers:
Carpet needs to be stretched. Either glue it or tack it down on tack strips. they have tack strips with concrete nails. Rent a knee kicker , tack one wall and stretch the other wall and then tack it as you stretch the wrinkles out. If glueing, fold one half of the carpent, cover the complete area with glue and lay it back down and repeat on the other half, Rent a heavy roller 50, 75 100 lb and roll the wrinkles out. If you want to save $ get a kitchen rolling pen and use your body weight. If the room is hot the carpet will relax and be easier to manage.
If you lay the carpet properly the wrinkles will probably come out.Is the carpet been installed with smoothedge at sides?Smoothedge is the toothed edging that carpet layers use to attach sides of carpet. Then they use a stretcher to lay carpet evenly. If you are having it done this way, wrinkles should come out.Good Luck!
I can suggest this. I think the best thing is to dampen it a little . You did´t say how large the carpet is, If it´s a wall to wall carpet , the wrinkles should have come out when it was laid, But if it´s a large centre carpet then with a damp sponge go over it and rub outwards.Or turn it over and stamp on it pushing your feet outward´s. I did this with a rug we had stores in the loft, it had been moved around so many times and never put straight. The wrinkles came
Try wetting it or shampoo it if you have a machine. The cheapest way would be to get the backing wet.
I agree with the first answer is the only way. My grandfather laid carpet and tile floor.
