First and foremost, you need to train your animal not to do this any longer.
Second obtain "NATURE'S MIRACLE Stain & Ordor Remover" from your local pet supply store.
Wash the area really well with soap and water. Rinse well, pat dry. When the carpet is almost dry spray generously with the Natures Miracle. You may need to repeat this once or twice while training your animal.
If the urine got onto the wall and/or base boards - also treat those areas as above.
