I have this slimy black stuff on the inside of my dishwasher. Yes it is an old one, but it works.?
Question:Does anyone know what this slimy black stuff is and how to get rid of it. I've tried cleaning it by hand, and it works, but it is difficult to bend over far enough to get in the back of the dishwasher.
Does anyone know of another short cut?

You have hard water creating lyme & mildew build up. Spray some CLR in the back b4 you run it or just run it on the hotteste temp w/bleach sparyed all around inside. No sense in getting rid of something if it still works!
It sounds like mold... spray it down with bleach and let it sit a while. after about a half hour , run your dishwasher through its cycle WITHOUT any dishes in it .. that should at least start breaking the black mold down ... repeat if needed
What about using a new toilet brush to reach the back of the dishwasher.
Run about a cup, maybe two of vinegar through the dishwasher. Do not use the drying cycle and the scrub off the black stuff with the never used toilet brush..
This is gonna sound funny but it works..
Buy an envelope of Tang (you know the powdered orange drink) put it into your machine and let it run a cycle.. then run once more with baking soda as a rinse to get the orange smell out.. It will come out sparkling clean..
Now this works as we have tried it before..
Makes you wonder though what tang does to our stomachs.. lol Good Luck!
Go to HOme Depot or Lowes etc and get a bottle of "Dishwasher Magic". You take off the cap, put the bottle in the bottom rack of the dishwasher and run it on a regular cycle. The dishwasher is absolutely beautiful and looks brand new!
I saw the comment about using Tang drink mix. You can do the same thing with any sweetened/nonsweetened drink mix... I like the smell.Get a few envelopes of Kool-Aid generic/reg. and put acouple in the soap dispenser... It will freshen the dishwasher (smell) and the citric acid in the mix will take the mold away... Just run it on empty cycle with really hot water... Good luck..
