Whats up with old people and moth balls?

I'm not old and I use moth balls outside around the window sills and around the foundation of the house for the following reasons.
1. bugs hate them especially spiders
2. Cats don't like them either
I hate both spiders and cats
My grandmother used them to keep moths out of ther closets,
If old people are using moth balls to repell moths, it's probably because that's what they were taught to do way back in the day when they were growing up. Some of those old fashioned remedies never die because they work so well. When our generation gets old, we will probably use Raid, and the young people then will be like,"What's up with old people and Raid?"
back in the day older ppl used moth balls in there closets to repell moths eating there ''wool'' clothing now a days i think thats how they grew up and are used to it and probrably still have wool clothing...
