How do I get my towels as soft as the first day I bought them?
Question:I have tried fabic softner in the washer and dryer sheets in the dryer.

Other than the obvious, (fabric softener) I would try to rinsing them twice instead of once. You may be using too much detergent, and it's not quite all rinsing out. That will make the towels and washcloths a little stiff. You might also try putting them through the pre-wash cycle. That will help to get rid of what's already on them. I hope this helps.
Oh, and by the way, I've always been told that fabric softener will eliminate the ability of towels to really dry you off. Fabric softener repels some of the water you're trying to get the towel to absorb. ( I use it anyway, because it also makes the towels smell good ;) )
My Mom has always use Downy Fabric Softner and now I use it as well.
I just Love soft towels!
I wash mine in hot water and a little fabric softener...then when in the dryer I put 2-3 sheets...that should work...also they type of towel you buy is very important in the soft factor...the higher quality the easire for softness.
First, depends on the fabric that your towels are made of. Egyptian cotton will retain that softness longer.
I do not use hot water for my towels, but cold, and cold to rinse them. I use liquid fabric softener, never dryer sheets. And I leave them in the dryer for about 40 minutes or so, never overdry them. It works for my Egyptian cotton towels.
I think I bought some during last year's Black Friday at Wal-Mart, bath size towels, for a very good price. They are excellent towels, still. I bought several from LLBean about 10 yrs ago! And they are still in excelent shape..
I use loads of concentrated fabric softener and line dry them.
