You may have saturated it too much with water, and really gotten the pad beneath the carpet too wet. The best I can offer you is to set up some fans. If it feels really, REALLY dry, try sprinkling some baking soda on it, and let it sit for an hour or two before you vacuum it up. Hope this helps.

use rug doctor soap and the blue pine-sol leaves the best smell but dont shampoo when it is wet and muggy outside or it will be harder to dry and have a bad smell I put the small table fans on the floor to help dry it faster
Mildew in the padding of the carpet. You should always have carpets done professionally. Most consumer type cleaning machines out there are not powerful enough to suck up all the gunk they "clean" with leaving the padding to mildew...

Try going over them again with plain hot water rinse them good with it, the repeat then cleaning.
