Is there much of a difference between washing clothes at 30 degrees nd 40 degrees?
Question:Are clothes still washed the same or as good at lower temperatures?
Answers:
10 degrees is the difference. Its the detergent that makes the difference in real terms. Ariel now sell a washing powder that is strong enough to allow you to wash your clothes at 30 degrees-however they probably have stronger bleaching agents or other similar chemicals- which is not environmentally friendly.
Mmm not really, but with your everyday clothes it should be fine. Dirtier or stained clothes may need a hotter wash, but we all have to do our bit for the environment, don't we? I do most things on a 30 wash, only a 40 for really dirty jeans or towels.
10 degrees difference
As for cleaning results, no, as the materials and washing powders are far advanced to what they use to be. Economy wise it will help towards the environment and your yearly electric bill :)
yeah, I'd say roughly about 10 degrees
There won't be a difference if the clothes are just needing freshening up. If there are stained/dirty then the hotter wash will be better. If you need to kill germs for whatever reason(or are washing bedding/towels shared by different people) it needs to washed at minimum 60 to kill the germs) eg if people have skin complaints that could be contagious etc.
It depends on the washing powder I guess, but 40 has always been the good compromise between too hot and too cold.
yes
Your clothes are washed cleaner at higher temperatures regardless of what the machine and power manufacturers say.
No, but what the adverts do not tell you is that they add more bleach to the powder to make them wash clothes at lower temp.
