You could even rent your own steam cleaner. Thats what my family did a few times and it was great until my mom eventually bought one which was even better!

It takes a lot of work, but Resolve makes a dry cleaner for carpets. You sprinkle it on the carpets and take a brush and brush it into the carpet. The powder is just a little bit damp. You let it dry and vacuum. It does a great job and it is fantastic for spots. If you do a whole room it will make you tired from all the scrubbing, but to me its worth it in the end.
