What does this mean on a washing machine cycle, "tap cold"?

Question:There is another cycle for "cold", so what's this "tap cold"? The instruction manual of the machine doesn't have anything, of course. It assumes I would know such a silly question!

Answers:
My washer has this - it's confusing, isn't it?

"Tap cold" uses ONLY the incoming cold water, so it's whatever temperature your cold water is at the time. In the winter, it can be frigid!

The "Cold" setting mixes the hot and cold water to meet the washer's set temperature for cold. I assume it has some sort of thermometer built in to set the mixture, but I'm not sure.

I always use "Tap Cold" because using any kind of hot water in a cold wash makes no sense to me.

I think it would refer to if you only had cold water available for your machine, then you would use this setting and your machine would adjust it's cycle if you then selected warm or hot wash.
you know, when you have like a bath tub that has a circular turner for the water and it goes to all different temperatures? it goes from cold to medium or cool then to medium warm then to hot? well that tap cold probably means "just cool". but not real cold.
it is the between warm and cold. it's a good cycle for really dirty colored clothing.
i have never ever heard of that in my life
I have never heard such a thing. Does the instruction manual have a online e mail address or a phone# you can call. I would use that to call or see if you can google the name brand of the machine to get the info. Good luck
just wash in cold water.
congratulations, you own a smart appliance!
(maybe too smart for all of us)

tap cold is is simply the tap water NOT adjusted for temperature when used. smart washers can adjust winter cold water to (not bone numbing)cold to cool to luke warm to protect washables from temperature shock or to control the effectiveness of a particular detergent combination. many detergents can be too aggressive in higher heat (or lower colds) causing thread fraying and separation. additionally if you have a soap or clothing item with "brighteners", "UV enhancers", "fire retardants" or plane old scotchguard protection, you could shock them right out of the cloth.

todays laundry is nothing like grandmas spinning tub and crank roller extractor.

now you can wash almost like a professional dry cleaner and wash your down comforter without fear of damage. wash angora sweaters. hand wash hand knit lace from grandma. then turn around and wash the earth and blood out of the kids play clothes after a grand old day in the rain or on the playing field.
